Sleeping Kittens Critique #2

Sleeping Kittens

This piece is called “Sleeping Cats”. The photographer of this photo is unknown. The subject matter of this photograph is comfort.

The piece is a photograph of two fluffy kittens. It is a close up of their sleeping heads. There is a comfortable and cozy content. The two innocent fluffy kittens create a perfect harmony and the juxtaposition of the kittens makes them seem so comfortable. The bottom kitten resting his head on the top kitten’s paw is subtle because one doesn’t notice it at first. This is a sensory photo because the furry kittens pertain to the sense of touch, which also makes the texture of the photo seem fluffy and soft. The photo consists of light values and the tone is also light. The colors used are mostly white with light browns, grays, and some black. There is emphasis on the top kitten because his whole face is shown and his colors are more consistent and blended than the bottoms kitten’s lighter face. The viewer would interpret this as two comfortable kittens sleeping peacefully after a day of playing.

The kittens’ closed eyes make this piece seem peaceful and relaxing. Their fur makes it seem comfortable and warm. An obvious narrative would be that after a long day of playing, the kittens snuggled up for a cozy nap. The viewer feels warm and happy when they see this because the kittens are so comfortable and innocent.

Very cute picture. I think the cats together deffinatly show comfort. And I like that you used a photograph instead of a painting.
